PLOCAN Bags €1.2 Million in Government Funding
The Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) has allocated €1.2 million in its 2016 budget to the the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN).
PLOCAN is a research facility co-funded by the Economy and Competitiveness Ministry of the Spanish government and the Canary Islands government.
Its aim is to support the research and development in the fields of ocean science and technology.
PLOCAN features a marine energy test site with an infrastructure that can facilitate the development of emerging ocean energy converters. It is located at the east coast of Gran Canaria island, Spain, and covers the surface of 23 square km.
To remind, Finnish wave energy developer Wello is currently testing its Penguin II wave energy converter at PLOCAN test site.
