Image of the day: OpenHydro’s tidal turbine in Pictou The image was taken during FORCE staff visit to the Aecon facility in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) staff visited the Aecon facility in Pictou, where Cape Sharp Tidal’s turbine is now under construction. According to FORCE, the end caps pictured behind the staff, which will house the turbine blades, are stacked on their sides. Once mounted on their base, they will face directly into the tidal flow. Cape Sharp Tidal, a joint venture between Emera and OpenHydro, plans to deploy and grid-connect two 2 MW tidal turbines in the Bay of Fundy in spring 2016. Aecon Group has been tasked with the fabrication of the turbines components and development of the barge that will be used to deploy turbines on the seabed.
